TYPE: Dubai’s first low-cost airline with a great business class cabin
IN THE SKIES SINCE: June 2009
FLIES OUT OF: Dubai International Airport, Terminal 2
DID YOU KNOW: Flydubai reaches unique destinations most Dubai-based airlines don’t
DESTINATIONS: Over 95 cities in 44 countries
FLEET: Boeing 737
Flydubai’s business class offers many benefits to make sure your journey is a memorable one. It was my first experience flying with them on a recent trip organised by The Travel Hub (a community of socially inspired travellers) to Colombo – they got it right from start to finish.
The Booking Process: The quickest way is to book online on www.flydubai.com/en. Don’t forget to sign up for their Open rewards programme, which entitles you to an exclusive five per cent off all fares (some conditions apply).
The Flydubai Terminal: Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport is relatively quiet and easy to navigate. You can get through security quickly too. There’s also a great duty free for some last-minute shopping.
Check-in & Boarding: There are two dedicated check-in counters for business class passengers to make the check-in process a breeze. A separate boarding gate (also with snacks and beverages) and bus to take you to your flight are also part of the experience.
Lounge Access: Enjoy a meal, have a drink, watch a movie or catch up on emails with free Wi-Fi at the new Flydubai business class non-smoking lounge conveniently located next to the gates and duty free shopping.
Cabin & Seat: The business class cabin seats 12 passengers which means really personalised service. The seats are made of Italian leather and recline a fair bit with extended leg rests. Every seat is also provided with a USB port and power supply.
Amenities: A comfy pillow and blanket as well as access to great entertainment on a 12.1 inch built-in touchscreen are all part of the business class experience.
Food & Service: Look forward to a three-course gourmet meal (think wok-fried Gulf prawns, homemade spinach ravioli and layered strawberry shortcake), delicious snacks (my favourite was the olives) and a great selection of fine champagne, wines and spirits. I also loved the little touches like pink salt. The service was flawless (the stewardesses on our flights had a great sense of humour too).
WI-FI: It’s available onboard (for most routes) but it’s chargeable.
Pros: Great bundled fare including baggage, meals and entertainment, efficient service with a smile, priority boarding and complimentary lounge access.
Cons: They don’t have flat-bed seats. I heard this is changing though with the arrival of their new Boeing 737 Max 8 aircrafts. I also wish the USB port and headphone jack was next to the seat and not beneath the TV.
Would I fly Flydubai Business Class Again?: Absolutely. I’ve already booked my next flight. Also, Flydubai and Emirates have recently partnered to offer codeshare routes and reciprocal benefits. Read more about it here.
