The exquisite 42-acres Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui designed by the talented Bill Bensley lies on what used to be a coconut plantation in the northwest of the island. Its peaceful setting, mesmerising views, excellent restaurants, ultra comfortable pool villas (that make it so hard to leave), top-notch facilities and warm hospitality make it one of the finest island getaways in beautiful Thailand.

Who Visits: Couples, families and friends in search of an idyllic and serene island getaway.

What it’s Best For: Lots of relaxation, beach time, excellent food and breathtaking views of the calm blue ocean.

The Style: The property aims to wow you at every turn beginning from the moment you foot in one of the most unassuming hotel lobbies in the world. A tall narrow door opens up and leads you to sweeping views of the tropical jungle, picture-perfect beach and turquoise seas. Expect chic island décor, lush surrounding that’s been immaculately maintained throughout the property and beautiful salas (open pavilions).

The Service: Switched on, genuine and very thoughtful service by each and everyone throughout the property.

Accommodation: There are 60 spacious and elegant stand-alone hillside villas. I stayed in a Deluxe one-bedroom pool villa with its own private terrace and double shaded daybed, his and her dressing rooms and closets, a sea view bath, an outdoor dining area, bar, stocked wine fridge and private plunge pool overlooking the jungle and ocean. That’s not all, super comfy king-size beds, a flat screen TV with DVD rental options and an excellent rain shower are also a part of these exceptional villas.

Room Amenities: Some of the cool features aside from the typical amenities are glass-bottled water, flip-flops, a wine fridge, an espresso machine, Four Seasons bath products, a Four Seasons signature mattress, a Bose Bluetooth speaker, a yoga mat, beach totes and an important one – a really good hairdryer.

Savour:  Whether you are in the mood for authentic Thai delicacies and wines at Koh, Thai Kitchen and Bar by Chef Jeab located on the hilltop or Mediterranean fare at Pla Pla (meaning many fish) right on the beach (casual seafood, western and Thai spot by day and innovative Mediterranean spot by night) by Chef Ivo Benido, – the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui is a gourmet paradise. The property is also home to trendy poolside CoCoRum Bar and Rum Vault, which houses Asia’s first and only library of rums from across the world.

The Beach:  Look forward to relaxing on a private beach (a rarity in Thailand) and it’s a quiet, adults-only beach thanks to the natural placement of rocks alongside both ends. Also, the beach attendants will spoil you with cold scented towels, fresh juices, fruit and chilled facial sprays during your time at the beach – a really nice touch.

Unwind: The Secret Garden Spa at the resort has bamboo walkways and five sprawling tree-house salas literally tucked away in the heart of the forest on the property. Opt for one of the signature traditional Thai massages, which use local products – the 120-min Relaxation Massage with spa therapist Naarie is highly recommended. There are quite a few stairs to access these spa rooms so be sure to request the closest one if you have any difficulty climbing stairs. Alternatively, you can also opt for a massage right on the beach. Other spa facilities include mani and pedi stations, a hair salon as well as steam rooms and saunas.

The Facilities: Besides your own private pool villa, while away the time in the hotel’s main infinity pool, a Muay Thai boxing ring, tennis courts, a state-of the-art gym and a watersports centre offering motorised and non-motorised activities.

What’s Unique:  This island getaway has an exceptional location- nestled on a private hill and surrounded by pristine white sand beaches, tropical jungle and the Gulf of Siam. Also, the property has a floating platform with two couches (yes, you read right). Swim, kayak or take a rubber dinghy out to access this cool platform to sunbathe, snorkel, dive off or have a drink literally in the middle of the ocean with spectacular views of the property.

Love-Hate: The property is located a 30-minute drive away from the main town of Bo Phut. If you want to be around all the action, this isn’t it. Also, a stay here can get quite pricey but the once-in-a-lifetime experience makes it worthwhile. What I did love was the Four Seasons app chat option where you can request for services such as housekeeping, meals, pillows, ice and buggies from your butler with just a quick message.

Children: The property has an incredible Kids Club by the beach offering a wide variety of outdoor activities and games for children aged 4-12 as well as childcare services.

Dress Code: Super casual and relaxed. If you forget to pack a few essentials like sunblock and after sun lotion- your butler can provide you with these in a jiffy.

When to Go: Luckily, Koh Samui is a year-round destination. If I had to be picky, I would avoid October and November as it tends to rain but there is still plenty of sunshine.

How to Get There: Fly into Koh Samui Airport in Thailand or connect from other neighbouring cities. From here, it’s a 40-minute drive to the hotel.

Voyageur Chic Insider Tip: The sunsets in Koh Samui are breathtaking. Secure your spot at Koh Thai Kitchen & Bar (head early if you want the best spot) for an unforgettable sunset viewing. Also, don’t miss the morning yoga session at Yoga Sala and the Tai Chi at the Muay Thai training ring.
